Is it a donkey? Is it a horse? No, it’s mighty Zeus!
With a height of 104.6 cm, Zeus, a two-year-old American Great Dane from the US, set a new record as the tallest living male dog in the world.
The German Shepherd, a breed of dog often used by the police, has a typical height of 70 cm. The Corgi, of which Queen Elizabeth II once owned several, is about 30 cm tall. Milly, the smallest dog in the world, is a chihuahua just 9.65 cm tall. So to say Zeus stands head and shoulders above his peers is an understatement.
Zeus’ owner, Brittany Davis, knew the dog was special since his birth as he was the largest puppy in a litter of five. “He’s been a big dog since we got him, even for a puppy. He had huge paws,” Davis said.
Great Danes were originally bred to hunt hogs and protect people riding in carriages, but Zeus does neither of these things: he is laid-back, and not very brave either. “Zeus would be absolutely terrified of a hog. He’s scared of rain,” Davis joked.
But even though Zeus is much taller, he befriends dogs of all sizes as he “doesn’t discriminate“.
